50 vs. Kanye. Who will win? I bet the barnyard on Kanye. Here’s my logic, but I’m sure Jay will have a different spin. The music industry and the way music has been evolving throughout the last couple of years has spelled out two different things. One -mainstream garbage that hits the top 40’s and spins on every station in the country while playing on trl every day. Two - innovative trend setting niche music that identifies to a certain lifestyle. One - 50 cent. Two - Kanye West.

50 Cent has become a household name (and i dont mean in the betty crocker kind of way). He’s definitely hit the point of no return in the music scene where it’s no longer “cool” for the in crowd of 50 kids to listen to. Rather, it’s “cool” for everyone else. He’s not innovate, if anything he’s repetitive and great at over exposing and riding the “im a gangster, went to jail, got shot in the face, and made a movie about it” wave.

Kanye definatley hit the mainstream to some degree. But at the same time he’s definitely embracing different genres of music (ie. his single stronger and sampling Daft Punk) and staying on the edge of what’s different, instead of conforming to the same formula that made Late Registration such a big hit. I like to call him the urban hipster guru, that’s not afraid to take chances and dip into different genres. Kanye’s overall a great producer and it will be apparent when you listen to the new album. He rides the fine line between hip hop, rock and the hipster lifestyle which gives him an edge over the over saturated gangster rap genre that 50 cent swims in.

I’ve actually listened to both of the new albums already - and production wise…everything wise…Kanye takes captures the flag on this one. If it weren’t for the fact that he loves himself more then he needs air…i’d giving him a standing ovation. I wonder if 50 will stand by his word - and quit making solo albums if he sells less…. thoughts?
