Here’s a conversation I had with fellow RK writer Daniel about myspace/facebook and the crack it feeds us everyday. We come back for more - posting, updating, messaging, uploading, (hoping someone realizes how cool you really are)…..we say it’s okay because it’s merely a form of entertainment, but in reality its a new medium that distracts us from progressing towards the future and keeps us dwindling and living in the now and past.
Daniel: i wanna delete myspace account haha
Patty: you know how they added notifications
now when i look at my friends and the updates they are doing on myspace
to be honest - its very unattractive - like.. how old are you? posting up pictures, changing profile everyday….
Patty: its sad to say - but i need to get going on facebook so i can understand it better and the applications for work. The thing i dont like is starting new connections again - seeing what old friends are doing - its all very addicting - yet all very unproductive and has nothing to do with my current life or people around me — if anything it makes people muster around in the past and try to rekindle old friendships or whatever - but there’s a point of why these relationships end in the first place - because everyone moves on — so its almost spending time in the past — looking backwards instead using all your energies to make your network for the future - which is what linked in is all about. Go linked in!
